HUMEWOOD
A NEW HOME, LAYERED WITH WARMTH, PERSONALITY, AND EVERYDAY COMFORT.
HUMEWOOD, TORONTOMoving into a newly built home often comes with exciting possibilities, but it can also feel like starting with a blank canvas. For this young family of four, the architecture offered clean lines and beautifully proportioned spaces, yet the interiors lacked the warmth and personality that make a house feel truly lived in. Referred to the studio by past clients, they were looking for guidance in creating a home that felt welcoming, relaxed, and designed for the way their family lives today.
Rather than following a predetermined aesthetic, the design evolved through thoughtful conversations and a clear understanding of how the family wanted to use each space. The home needed to comfortably accommodate everything from quiet evenings together to lively gatherings with friends and extended family, balancing contemporary simplicity with an atmosphere that felt soft, inviting, and effortlessly liveable.
“The most welcoming homes aren’t the ones filled with more—they’re the ones filled with meaning.”
With little architectural detailing to guide the interiors, character was introduced through carefully layered furnishings, natural textures, and a palette of warm neutrals accented with rich jewel tones. Mid-century influences sit comfortably alongside clean contemporary forms, while artwork, accessories, and collected pieces add personality without overwhelming the calm simplicity of the home. Larger furniture pieces remain intentionally understated, allowing colour and texture to emerge gradually throughout each room.
Today, the home feels relaxed, cohesive, and deeply reflective of the family who live there. Comfortable enough for everyday life, generous enough for entertaining, and layered with warmth rather than excess, it demonstrates how thoughtful furnishing can transform even the simplest architecture into a home with lasting character.
DESIGN NOTES
CHARACTER IS CREATED THROUGH LAYERS, NOT CLUTTER.
Thoughtfully chosen furnishings, artwork, and natural textures bring warmth and personality to even the simplest spaces.
THE BEST FAMILY HOMES FEEL BOTH CALM AND INVITING.
Soft materials, generous seating, and durable finishes create spaces that are as comfortable for everyday living as they are for entertaining.
A HOME SHOULD GROW ALONGSIDE THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE.
Timeless foundational pieces allow colour, art, and collected objects to evolve naturally over time.
