DUFFERIN GROVE
WHERE THOUGHTFUL DESIGN MEETS THE RHYTHM OF EVERYDAY LIFE.
DUFFERIN GROVE, TORONTOEvery family lives differently, and the best homes are the ones that quietly adapt alongside them. This Victorian semi-detached home in Dufferin Grove already possessed beautiful proportions and plenty of character, but it no longer reflected the way its young family wanted to live. The ambition wasn’t to dramatically reinvent the house—it was to make every room feel more intuitive, more functional, and ultimately more personal.
The redesign centred around the spaces used every single day. A bespoke fireplace wall was designed to conceal the television within finely crafted white oak joinery, introducing generous hidden storage while allowing the living room to remain calm and uncluttered. In the kitchen, a thoughtful reconfiguration almost doubled the available storage, creating a space that feels both highly practical and effortlessly considered.
“A well-planned home creates space for the moments that matter most.”
Throughout the home, natural materials bring warmth and permanence. Richly veined Calacatta Viola marble introduces moments of quiet drama, balanced by warm oak, tailored detailing, and carefully layered finishes that feel collected rather than decorative. Every intervention was designed to sit comfortably within the home’s original character, allowing old and new to exist in harmony.
Today, the house feels lighter, calmer, and beautifully resolved. Every space has been carefully considered, yet nothing feels overworked. It is a home designed to support the rhythms of everyday family life while retaining the timeless character that first made it worth falling in love with.
DESIGN NOTES
THE BEST STORAGE IS THE KIND YOU BARELY NOTICE.
Beautiful joinery should feel like part of the architecture rather than an addition to it.
NATURAL MATERIALS CREATE A SENSE OF PERMANENCE.
Oak, marble, and honest finishes only become more beautiful as they age.
GOOD DESIGN SHOULD MAKE EVERYDAY LIFE FEEL EASIER.
The most successful homes are shaped around the people who live within them, not simply the spaces themselves.
